Halloween is gaining popularity in Gran Canaria, possibly due to the mixture of cultures on the island.
Bars and discos often decorate and dress up in fancy dress costumes on 31st October, mostly in the main resorts such as Puerto Rico and Playa del Ingles.
Holiday World in Maspalomas always do some kind of special event to celebrate Halloween to entertain families, with mascots, shows and costumes.
If you are looking for Halloween decorations and costumes in Gran Canaria, there are a few places you can try, the fiesta shop Carolan (C.C BellaVista), Bazar Ani in San Fernando or Happy Shopping in Arguineguin. El Corte Ingles in Las Palmas have a great selection of Halloween costumes and accessories in their toy department around this time of year too.
Pumpkins can be found in supermarkets like Hiperdino or veg shops. You can find plastic alternatives in party shops if you don’t wish to carve. Failing that you can always get creative and make your own Halloween decorations!
For things to do I would suggest booking a fun evening at Parapark Gran Canaria, especially if you go at night! It’s a real life escape the room game for 2-5 players.
NOTE: In Spain, the day after Halloween is a Holy day, ‘Día de todos los Santos’, in which to remember the deceased. Cemeteries will be very busy with family members spending time at gravesides, cleaning and leaving fresh flowers for their loved ones.
